this is absolutely fantastique... francesco de masi is straight killing it on this one, with alessandro alessandroni laying down some ridiculously siqq sitar parts. from 66, a fucking classique of soundtrack/library gems&jams. sorry for the ugly cover, it's the reissue, so this is a 320 rip of a cd i recently bought. enjoy amigos!

strange powers.
bought this earlier today & have been floating in it's warm embrace ever since. released in 88 on hearts of space (connie demby, michael stearns, kevin braheny, etc), this is perfect for summer with it's synth washes & angelic chorales & soft tribal dances. my dream owl is soaring through the night air with this as it's guiding light.

Song for Charlie
Well well, World Cup's finally over. You must imagine the mess Brazil has been over the past month, and I must say I'll kinda miss it (mainly because of the holidays). Not the reason which finally led me to break my long absence, tho.
Last week, a good man named Charlie Haden passed away. While most recognizable for his association with Ornette Coleman, he played the bass in many excellent recordings (notably Liberation Music Orchestra), not restraining himself to American jazz.
This collaboration with the -- legendary -- Portuguese Guitar player, Carlos Paredes, is one of them. Accompanying a Portuguese Guitar with teh bass doesn't seem an easy task, which Haden, however, transformed into a subtle, yet splendent amalgamation.

a gift.
so it's taken me a while to post this gem of the hidden temple for a myriad of reasons. mainly as to the confusion surrounding this guy on my part. there is very very little about him other than a couple of you/ethiotube videos, where they list him as wasse kassa, but on the cd & one other place (which is also a mention of this cd in some radio playlist) they have him listed as wase kasa. finally i decided to just keep it the same as the artwork. if you'd like to change it after you download it, i don't fucking care. just download this. yr going to thank me, you really will. more in line with the modern ethiopian sound of joyous casio keyboard lines on top of drum machine beats. he also has a beautiful voice, & the songs are instantly memorable. i'm 99.9% certain that you can't download this anywhere else in the wastelands, so enjoy amigos.
tl;dr jammin' ethiopian shit from the nineties that is rare rare rare.
ps not a shitty scan of cover on my part. that is just how the cover looks.

What the duck
I miss playing in a band. Despite having been part of quite a few, rarely I felt 100% satisfied with any of them, whether technically, artistically, financially (lol) etc. Fact is, I've always been kind of a draconian band leader (not by choice) and a lazy band member. Despite that, I've quite never met the musical match to inspire me to make things working -- actually there is only one chap whose musicianship I truly admired, and as maybe he'll read this, please take my compliment for granted.
This band, for instance, looks like a great band to be part of, whether you're playing on it or not. It's like you're watching them jamming with affordable instruments in some basement while drinking cheap beer and eating doritos. Regardless, it sounds like real good and catchy music, yet not the kind that will make into Girls or some cool TV ad. Their second album is availabe at Bandcamp.
