qualchan. ~ vera's dream. c20 now available!

my newest album, vera's dream., has come out through the wonderful aescape sounds label outta beautiful austin, tx. i spent a lot of time on this album, & i think it might be my best yet. it continues off from the sounds i was exploring on my last tape, the spectacle., a sour take on new age inspired by robert turman, dj screw & ernest callenbach's ecotopia.

i have also posted my latest smoke signals mix over at mixcloud, because let's face it, most everyone these days streams music, so i thought i'd make it easier. a summery blast of screwed dreampop & minimal synths, it arrives just in time for you to get lost in the clouds.

qualchan. ~ the spectacle. c42 out today!

the spectacle. was written in late summer/early fall of 2k16 & is influenced by ted kaczynski's anti-tech revolution: why & how & guy debord's the society of the spectacle. it is my sour take on new age & reflects my feelings towards the alienation of humans from each other & from nature & the rising wave of automation pressed on by late stage capitalism & what that means for human society at large.

Kawabata & Yoshida & Umezu

http://www.mediafire.com/download/2eot7cbfmpm73aa/2011_-_Sax_&_The_City.zip

A quick re-share from our defunct private club. And you read it right: that's "doc" Umezu (hello, Lucky) with Acid Mothers Temple SWR, the most recent Kawabata's project which includes none other than Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins, Koenjihyakkei, dozens of others). I must say, however, this album still haven't "stick" in me, despite having listened to it a few times. To me it sounds more like a private conversation to which you were not exactly invited (you wonder how this album passed so unnoticed). Nevertheless, it's a fantastic collab from Japanese avant masters.

Time of the Sea / Sun

There was a time when I considered myself a hardcore Boredoms fan -- as well as with Noise and its variants in general. And while they still are one of my favorite bands, it kinda seems that one day* we both realized we've had grown up. Their lack of releases, aside the Super Roots EPs (only own the first), and my need for more structured music might explain it as well.

Seadrum/House of Sun is listed as their last release, and not exactly a fan favorite. Many will recommend Super Æ or Vision Creation Newsun over it, but there's something I find really appealling in this record. To me, it sounds more laid back, sincere and texture-focused than the others. More or less like a celebration for what they've had achieved, and in that way it does sound like a proper farewell, even if uncalled for.

the crow returns as the arrow flies north.

matt mondanile (the parasails, ducktails, real estate) channeling gnarled noise rock through kraut sensibilities with thick clouds of smoke enveloping everything. perfect for blaring out of the windows of yr bitchin' 77' thunderbird.

no time for love.

this here record is a fucking beast of jazzy funk fusion shit with a little heaviness thrown in there for some serious head nodding while moving yr body. alphonse mouzon has played with some of my favorite cats including wayne shorter (!), mccoy tyner, freddie hubbard, & herbie fucking hancock. if that pedigree doesn't make you want to grab this, then i don't even know what to say.
