i know i don't post much music like this, & not very many people download my posts that aren't some obscure album from some imaginary country, but fuck that. this album has been out of print for a while now, which is a shame. scrappy punk featuring cindy crabb from doris zine, & the greatest living american author on drums, aaron cometbus. this reminds me a lot of the criminals & aaron's other band from this time period, cleveland bound death sentence, which is an amazing thing. fast short songs with alternating female/male vocals. & how do you go wrong with anything that cometbus has touched? seriously, do yrself a favor & pick up the latest cometbus zine, a bestiary of booksellers. his writing just continues to get better & better. the weather is warming up, & this has been the soundtrack to my days lately. don't sleep on this.

i don't need any more rules that keep me tied up.
i heard this for the first time in fall of 1994. a friend's older sister was a "punk" & played this along with a few other classics. at that time i was listening to a lot of nirvana & PiL, but black flag just struck me as this completely alien thing. & it was amazing to me that these guys were making this not too far from me. i knew right then & there that everything else paled in comparison & that punk was really invented in southern california in the late seventies. i always skipped ahead to the dez cadena tracks, but wished they had the raw lo-fi quality of the keith morris ones. anyway, enough rambling. put this on & smash a cop in the fucking face with a brick.

yr just a fucking hood.

i ran into andrea zollo a month or so ago while shopping for orange juice. i fanboy'd a little which she was nice about. i really liked pretty girls make graves a whole lot when they came out with their first few seven inches, but this is what made me crush on her when i was a young dude. lo-fi punk with members of murder city devils, pgmg, the cave singers, and some other questionable bands (ie jaguar love).

i will make you mine.

cabaret punk from aaron montaigne (antioch arrow, the chandeliers, heroin). the seven inch is a bit boring where he's just playing drums, but after they got rid of the singer & aaron took over vocals, things got a lot more interesting. they added dave clifford (the vss, slaves/pleasure forever, red sparowes) on drums, & had a fuller more engaging sound. pretty essential if yr into weird records, old vaudevillian tropes, the art of cabaret, or just miss the days of 1999 when people thought it was really kooky for the former frontman of antioch arrow to play in a carnival sideshow band.

housework for three.

somewhere inbetween the smooth soul sounds of the make*up & the heavy funk of weird war lies scene creamers. another ian s. record, so of course i will highly back this one. good to blast from yr car stereo with the windows down & the sun shining while driving along the pch. this is dedicated to zach.
