qualchan. ~ vera's dream. c20 now available!

my newest album, vera's dream., has come out through the wonderful aescape sounds label outta beautiful austin, tx. i spent a lot of time on this album, & i think it might be my best yet. it continues off from the sounds i was exploring on my last tape, the spectacle., a sour take on new age inspired by robert turman, dj screw & ernest callenbach's ecotopia.

i have also posted my latest smoke signals mix over at mixcloud, because let's face it, most everyone these days streams music, so i thought i'd make it easier. a summery blast of screwed dreampop & minimal synths, it arrives just in time for you to get lost in the clouds.

qualchan. ~ the spectacle. c42 out today!

the spectacle. was written in late summer/early fall of 2k16 & is influenced by ted kaczynski's anti-tech revolution: why & how & guy debord's the society of the spectacle. it is my sour take on new age & reflects my feelings towards the alienation of humans from each other & from nature & the rising wave of automation pressed on by late stage capitalism & what that means for human society at large.

qualchan ~ ninety nine flowers is out on cassette!

my latest tape just came out today via magical garage taste, who is absolutely one of the nicest & hardworkin fellers out there. this album deals with the loss of freedom, & is inspired by nagamatzu, sauce twinz, bobby turman & sandwell district. the title comes from roberto bolano talking about pushing forward as a new vanguard of culture. it's dark but is maybe my most accessible work yet. anyway, it also comes with a cd-r of the latest smoke signals mix

you can purchase the tape or download for nyp here

recorded in 1985 in holland, it was produced by fullman rubbing rosined fingers on 70 foot long strings creating a hauntingly beautiful drone. amazing, can not recommend this one enough.

look for me at the bottom of the sea.

my favorite coil record. don't be fooled by all of those shitty fat goths who listen to icp & claim coil is an industrial band. that's like saying ahmad zahir is a black metal band. this album will literally fucking crush you. chew up a bunch of morning glory seeds & jam on the one.

i still love the girl from bennington.

Suzanne Ciani (born June 4, 1946) is an italian american pianist and music composer who found early success with innovative electronic music.

She received classical music training at wellesley college and obtained her m.a. in music composition in 1970 at UCB where she met and was influenced by the synthesizer designer, don buchla. She studied computer generated music with john chowning and max matthews at stanford's artificial intelligence labs in the early 1970s.

In 1982 Ciani began to record albums in the new age genre, characterized by a mix of electronic and traditional instruments. Her first album, Seven Waves was first released in 1982 in Japan, and was later released in her native US in 1984 through atlantic records. Her 1986 album [[The Velocity Of Love, released by rca records, featured Ciani's best known song, the title track. In 1987 she signed to the private music label, which released a number of albums from 1988 to 1992, including re-issues of her first two albums. Although emphasizing electronic music in her recordings, her solo piano album Pianissimo, from 1990, became her best-selling album. Ciani ended her contract with Private Music with the compilation The Private Music Of Suzanne Ciani, in 1992.
In the 1990s Ciani founded her own music label, Seventh Wave, from which she has released all her subsequent albums, which have been more classically oriented than her previous recordings. 1994's Dream Suite was recorded in moscow with the Young Russia Orchestra, and was Grammy-nominated. 1999's Turning featured her first composition with lyrics, in the title track, sung by Taiwanese artist chyi yu.
In early 2006, Ciani's Silver Ship won in The 5th Annual independent music awards for Best New Age Album. Ciani was also an inaugural member of the independent music awards judging panel to support independent artists.
Five of Ciani's albums have been nominated for grammy awards. - wikipedia

just discovered her recently. ridiculously good. sublimely beautiful & utterly essential for everyone remotely interested in catchphrases like ambient, drone or finding yr footing in an ever shifting & boundless genre. for the lo-fi tweens out there in ripped sweaters & skinny jeans, here is yr new ferraro.

one sided tape looping infinitely.

chuck person is the nom de plume of daniel lopatin (kgb man, skyramps, infinity window, total system point never, games, oneohtrix point never). nothing like anything he has done... well, i guess this was kind of the precursor of the new opn album replica. i didn't really care for that album, but this chuck person tape is dope as fuck. chopped & screwed steez perfect for green afternoons.

san francisco sun tans.

growing is one of my favorite drone bands, & these are my two favorite records from them. just really beautiful pastoral drone that takes you away & sends you skyward floating above forests of gorgeous reverb. great for astral traveling if ya catch my drift.
