catch the flashback.

http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/98978779/file.html

a masterpiece of morning meditation musique. ray lynch's debut solo should be counted up there with iasos' jeweled space & mike stearn's planetary unfolding. absolutely beautiful & essential.

ps it has come to my attention that windows users have an issue with unzipping my folders because of the period i put at the end of the file names... first i've heard of this in the four years i have been sharing music. does anyone else have this problem?

keeping this short, about to go get lost in the woods for a bit. favorite song on here is under the sun, good antidote to shitty cold weather we've been having lately.

lamp of the south.

http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/26475611/file.html

another gem from the vaults of numero as part of their local customs series. this one is near & dear to my heart since i've been feeling real heartsick for the beautiful vistas & warm weather of texas. probably my favorite compilation from them, this makes me think of smoking unfiltered pall malls & drinking sweet tea & whiskey on friend's porches on warm summer nights. essential.

better change yr mind.

http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/23029665/file.html

somewhere between john carpenter, iannis xenakis, kpm/grm, & the parry music company lies this album by two dudes who most notably played synths on stevie wonder's innervisions & talking book amongst others. one of them created the tonto, the world's first multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer. they also played on albums by gil scott-heron, bobby womack, joan baez, the isley brothers, & tons of others. this is the cd version with thirteen tracks. hope you dig it.

the third in a series of fusion records by some nipponese masters. i have posted the other two here & here, which are both fucking essential, especially pacific. worth the price of admission for shigeru suzuki's jam. pvre fyre. less exotica kitsch & more funky jazz fusion, you'll be thanking me when yr driving rain blurred night streets in yr wayfarer's.

ps no harry hosono on this one, sorry dudes.

bought this a while ago, just now getting around to posting this gem. came out in 85, beautifully beguiling guitar figures with don slepian's (yep that guy!) gorgeously lush ethereal synths on top. morning meditation musique of the highest order.

a bit cheesy at times, this album also has some extremely sublime moments. maybe less new age & more neo~classical? i dunno, bought this because the san juan islands are about an hour & a half north of me & they're one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen. anyway, morning meditation musique for yr weekend.

Chamber Gamelan

http://www.mediafire.com/download/jqscnaidmnj3taa/CM-BCM.zip

Hey fellas, quite a while huh. I was really looking forward to start posting some private vinyl rips, but as if lacking a decent digital interface wasn't enough, my analogue receiver started making some nasty noises. It's been hard to gather encouragement, but Ryan's posts on Gamelan music reminded of this fairly uncommon release and I thought it would make an interesting counterpoint. Colin Mcphee was a Canadian-born composer / musicologist who took his Gamelan interest into his body of work. Benjamin Britten would follow suit after a trip to Bali some years later. Not nearly as charming as traditional Gamelan, but still good music.

1-3: "Balinese Ceremonial Music" (authentic Balinese music transcribed for two pianos) - McPhee / Britten
4-6: "Tabuh-Tabuhan" - McPhee
7-27: "The Prince of the Pagodas" - Britten

here is the soundtrack for the rest of yr oktober. stelvio cipriani is channeling suspiria-goblin, but adds his lush sensuous strings & ace sense of melody. & the best part is that claudio simonetti straight up fucking kills it with some ridiculously siqq keyboard parts. so so fucking good.

an array of dreams.

http://www76.zippyshare.com/v/11034228/file.html

An album that has remained off the radar until now, Mar Vista’s Lo-Fi progressive home recording ‘Visions’ was pressed in a quantity of 200 copies with blank sleeves and sold locally in France. Influenced by La Monte Young, Ashra Temple, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley, Tangerine Dream and others, the album plays as two side long songs, with side 1 being a suite of 6 songs intertwined with the use of a four track.
One hell of a trip, it stands as one of the more interesting private press albums we’ve heard from France, and another release originally pressed at the Le Kiosque D’Orphee pressing plant (look out for our upcoming Julien Grycan reissue also).
The CD comes with 2 long and killer bonus songs; Crash ‘73 which was influenced by early Soft Machine, and Sykthetik Way, a recording from ’78 influenced by artists like Klaus Schulze and is limited to only 500 copies. One hell of a trip, it stands as one of the more interesting private press albums we’ve heard from France. ~ lita

had this kicking around forever now, hesitated cuz spelling of name on album is different than website. change it to whatever you want. pretty great album.

private issue new age from portland, oregon. such a fucking beautiful album. truly gorgeous & evocative. been listening all morning while cleaning my apartment & everytime i hear something new that just blows my mind. not a synth-y new age album, this is more guitar/strings/horns, but super relaxing. i've hiked in the gorge before, & it is breath taking. if any of y'all ever make it up here, highly recommend it amigos. anyway, dive in!

two long beautiful droning ragas from the master, ustad bade ghulam ali khan. the back of the cd apologizes for the sound quality, they did the best they could with how old these recordings are. also, sorry amigos about the punch in the cover, that's how i bought it. pretty sure this is the first time i have seen it around in the wastelands, so hopefully you enjoy.

DIgital open-sourced gear porn [sponsored – 1 of 2]

Fellas, Jefe granted me permission to write a promoted post about the product my company's been working on -- we're about to start a Kickstarter campaign --, so I'll try to to make it short and sweet. But I assure you it has everything to do with muzak.

The MOD Duo is a digital pedalboard which runs a fined-tuned Linux for audio performance, with top-notch analog audio components as well. And instead of delivering a closed range of effects, our system allows you to install hundreds of different plugins, third-party as well as yours truly ones, from our web-based cloud without any additional cost. The GUI used to configure the effects works in chrome or any webkit-based browser, but you don't need it to gig, naturally.

There are many cool things to explain and say about it but I'll just leave the link here: http://portalmod.com

And a little introduction video as well:

decided to post this as a response to my comrade's posting of that prefuse 73 jam. i know this is a classique amongst the wastelands, but as flash recently said, blogs are dying left & right & things which could be found easily are becoming harder to find. so why not post this right? rita lee did this as a side project from os mutantes ... imagine of mutantes were a glam band. pretty good.

Stream of unconsciouness

http://www.mediafire.com/download/9c6o0338sr3c0ka/P73-T5SSV1.zip

I'm not a big Prefuse fan, but from time to time I'd play this when working, driving or too lazy to playlist, such awesome the mixtape is. One of these days, I was at work when, trying to find it in Grooveshark with no success, I noticed how overlooked it was (it was a limited, promo release as well). As the man himself put it, it's "a small sample of what I go home and listen to. More than a traditional mixtape, I preferred to let the introspective side in and share the sounds that I play when I’m cooking dinner, just thinking, or not sitting behind an MPC and various instruments for 12 hours!". Objectively, it's a careful selection of Latin American, Brazilian apocryphal and evangelical gems intertwined with some of his own samples, as I've discovered a couple of awesome things and could easily recognize others. About the ones I couldn't recognize, Prefuse himself stated that he wouldn't release any info on the tracks. Maybe for the best, tho.

pataphysical short circuits.

http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/59673406/file.html

if you enjoyed my last post about raphael, then yr gonna be psyched. this is much like the latter half of music to disappear in ~ ghostly tribal dream dances heavy on the exotica vibes.

ps the first two minutes are garbage, sit through them & you'll be rewarded. actually, anytime kutira sings it's pretty bad, but thankfully it's pretty minimal & she lets raphael jam on the one.

pps this is the 375th post in the two & a half years that spookcity has been operating. wow, that's kinda crazy to think about. anyway, thanks for coming here amigos!

Song for Charlie

http://www.mediafire.com/download/7nuj95l50qd3hqb/CH&CP-D.zip

Well well, World Cup's finally over. You must imagine the mess Brazil has been over the past month, and I must say I'll kinda miss it (mainly because of the holidays). Not the reason which finally led me to break my long absence, tho.

Last week, a good man named Charlie Haden passed away. While most recognizable for his association with Ornette Coleman, he played the bass in many excellent recordings (notably Liberation Music Orchestra), not restraining himself to American jazz.

This collaboration with the -- legendary  -- Portuguese Guitar player, Carlos Paredes, is one of them. Accompanying a Portuguese Guitar with teh bass doesn't seem an easy task, which Haden, however, transformed into a subtle, yet splendent amalgamation.
