The image of a blind Bhutanese musician playing an erhu-like bowed instrument is forever engraved in my mind. A couple of years before this dreadful pandemic, I was lucky enough to enter the Kingdom of Bhutan, and while I had no idea what to expect, I almost went nuts. Probably the most fascinating place I've ever been, in every aspect. On the musical side, it naturally shares many similarities with Nepalese music, because, Buddhism, but keeping their own thing as well.

Greetings anonymous friends and jefe/amigo Ryan. It's been ages since my last contribution here, and although I've been absent for no specific reason, it was jefe who inspired me to come back to this great club, as I've been planning to share this album since forever.

Portugal was the very first western country to ever reach Japan, which resulted in a curious and long relationship, for better or for worse. There's a famous story that Tempura was actually a Portuguese dish, changed and adapted over the centuries.

All this to say that Enka and Fado, even if not directly related, are a match as tasteful as shiso leaves with Portuguese flour drowned in boiling oil. And there's no better proof of concept than this Naomi Chiaki album, full of Fado songs translated and adapted to Japanese. What a better place to sing about the sea than on an island?

last year i binged king of the hill & i didn't understand the hate for ole chuck mangione. i had never listened to him before, i just knew him from the show. so i finally got around to it over the summer & discovered that i'm a dum dum. what a beautiful & vibrant album of gorgeously elastic jazz. his playing reminds me of sam gendel at points, so do the smart thing & download this.

over 2020 all i really listened to was jazz & i got really into fusion. i know this isn't the rarest, but i listened to this a whole lot last summer.

this album is so great. smooth jazz with electro elements from the mid 80s. i always spin it when i'm having a rough day & it turns it right around.

hey there, hope y'all are staying safe & sane out there. been listening to a lot of music since the start of covid, & have been toying around with the idea of coming back. don't know how frequently i'd be posting, but would like to share some jams & reconnect with some of the folks from yesteryear (s/o flash, walking trees, owl, ghost cap & all of the rest of the pb crew & especially to buruno, reach out sometime amigo!) anyway, here is some jazz fusion from 86 recorded with a synthaxe for the mpcs.

don't think of this as a come back, this is just an album i've really been enjoying & i wanted to share it with y'all. jack kevorkian (yeah dr death) made this fucking tight jazz album from 1997 where he played flute & organ. heavy vince guaraldi (if you're not a humongous fan of him then you're doing something wrong) vibes abound. as a matter of fact if i didn't know & someone played this for me i would just think they were some lost charlie brown cues. not my rip, but do we even have to say that anymore now that blogs are dead?

hey gang, sorry for not being around very much, it's summer & life has gone left for me. anyway, i'll be moving to portland in the beginning of september, so i'm selling off some of my tapes & vinyl to help fund the move. i'll try to be more active in the next month & a half because after the move there will probably be radio silence for a while. forever forward.
