the sighs.

Astonishing compendium of late '80s electro-funk and sweetest synth-pop from India (of all places!), issued on Bombay Connection - the label which unearthed Charanjit Singh's equally incredible 1982 acid raga LP!!! After the cherished 'Play That Beat Mr. Raja' LP bowled us out, and Finders Keepers' equally badass exposition, the work of "the Maestro" Illaiyaraaja is again exposed to full sunlight with this collection of 16 mindblowing themes from South India's Kollywood film industry. Crafted from almost entirely synthetic, electronic means, Ilaiyaraaja twisted the same machines which were being used elsewhere in the world to his own agenda, hatching a vividly colourful, eccentrically captivating adjunct to well known electro-funk and synth-pop imagined with bewildering attention to detail and lushly ornate arrangements. If you're only going to check a few of these, make sure to clock Yesudas & S. Janaki's coy, strutting duet 'Disco King', S.P. Balasubramaniam & Lata Mangeshkar's romantic dancefloor symphony 'Valaiyosai', and Anuradha's 'Baby', but you're encouraged to give them all a go! A huge recommendation। - boomkat

cannot recommend this enough. superbly exotique & fascinatingly catchy. the maestro deals in ear worms on this one. i swear you'll be humming vikram throughout yr day fershure.

i just wasn't made for these times.

brian wilson is the greatest songwriter of all time. he was also the best producer of all time. i think a lot of people forget about that aspect of his earlier career. this is a collection of projects he worked on. dig the honeys which was brian's wife at the time & how much they sound like a mix between the beach boys & the ronettes. if brian hadn't been derailed by mike love, he could have single handedly changed the face of modern humanity. or at least produced some really amazing albums. anyway, you should grab this & throw it on now that the weather is warming up for y'all.

cruising around the mediterranean desert in a yacht made of tumbleweeds..

two totally different albums from morricone. danger diabolik is some groovin spy thriller/giallo steez, while for a few dollars more is that sparse spaghetti western shit he became famous for. both are great in their own respective ways. what is yr favorite morricone album? i feel like i might have already tried to start this conversation before...

tropical belles.

more teenage mutant glue huffing channel surfing neon jams from everybody's favorite martyr of 2k11. not quite as good as grippers nother onesers, but definitely still very much worth yr while.

fred mertz was most likely a bad poet & a pervert.

this is a really special & meaningful record to me. i don't wanna stranger danger tmi y'all, so i'll just say that the first i hate myself song on here made it onto plenty of mixtapes made for friends back in the late nineties. i never really listened to the twelve hour turn side too much because i was captivated by the sheer emotion exuded by the ihm cats. no idea hardcore influenced by ebullition. i still listen to this all the time. it's one of my desert records fer shure comrades. i also want to share a piece of my youth culture with my kid brother who is experiencing his own youth culture right now which is exciting to see blossom. here's to yr adventures young pioneer.

one sided tape looping infinitely.

chuck person is the nom de plume of daniel lopatin (kgb man, skyramps, infinity window, total system point never, games, oneohtrix point never). nothing like anything he has done... well, i guess this was kind of the precursor of the new opn album replica. i didn't really care for that album, but this chuck person tape is dope as fuck. chopped & screwed steez perfect for green afternoons.

not even the moon.

tooth ache is an up & coming lady making dark submerged beats that are perfect for nite flights. think zola jesus meets balam acab. i'm going to take a moment out & give a holler out to my main squeeze walking trees & tell y'all to go check that brah's blawg out. he has already posted some really killer shit over thar, & i know he will only be posting more & more as time goes on. this cat's record collection is pretty stellar, & once he starts digitizing them, just look out. anyway, go to http://fivewalkingtrees.blogspot.com/ & download the night raga series he just posted. i'm listening to it as i type this & it's really really really good. just trust me.

xerox my hand.

sorry carp, i don't have audioflashcard, but i do have this gem. kill me tomorrow were from san diego, & were one of the last really interesting bands to emerge from that city. while signed to gsl, i think they could have just as easily been on skin graft or load. they don't have the same affinity for noise that most of those bands did, but their whole hearted embrace of weirdness reminds me of their providence brethren from the same era. just dark noisy post punk that is perfect for bike rides in nice sunny weather. this is one of the few albums from that era that still captivates my interest the entire way through.

swear to god snake, i thought you were dead...

the soundtrack to escape from new york has been blowing my mind lately. i think a lot of people write john carpenter off, but he is a beast... not only did he make some killer films, but the soundtracks he did are legit. if you like simonetti, moroder, & hammer, then this will be for you. it also at points sounds like a kraut record, which is pretty great in my humble opinion. reminds me a looot of the work that hammer did for miami vice, but in a whole other category of it's own. much darker, not as slick or neon. for the newjacks reading this, if you dig com truise, then this will be yr jam.

wasteoid teenager zones.

this is a couple of years old now, & has been floating around the wasteland foevah, but it's still one of my favorites, & it's my blawg, & imma post what i want. if you dug that grippers album by ferraro that i posted a while ago, but thought to yrself "hey this could be way dancier" then you got it. this is yr sister's sunbaked & warped cassette of jan hammer & yr tripping on dxm while at the mall shopping for a trapper keeper & a casio watch. get with it.

goodbye surfing, hello god.

the beach boys are tied with the smiths as my favorite band of all time. i feel they are put down by snobby condescending people as that kokomo band, or even worse people only remember them as that kokomo band. i think the greatest travesty of it all though is when those pitchfork hipster assholes who name drop the beach boys are asked what their favorite song or album is, & it's always pet sounds. don't get me wrong, pet sounds is one of the most creative & beautful albums ever put to tape, but they have such a wide career! granted, i don't listen to anything after friends, but brian wilson is the reason i listen to the beach boys. he is single handedly the greatest songwriter of all time. anyway, this is my mix of pre-pet sounds material, picking all of my favorite tunes from them. ps mike love is a motherfucker who deserved to die 45 years ago, & still deserves to die now. don't besmirch the good name of brian wilson for a few bucks you money hungry no talent ass clown.

bb come back.

james ferraro is really hit or miss, but has had flashes of brilliance like this lo-fi warped mutant glue sniffing pop masterpiece. & if yr reading this right now man, don't get bummed. make a new grippers album.
