qualchan. ~ smoke signals reupped.

vol I

vol II

vol III (which came as a companion piece to my tape, ninety nine flowers, which you can still pick up here https://illuminatedpaths.bandcamp.com/album/ninety-nine-flowers )

thought some people might like to hear the first three screwed mixes of mine since i've posted volumes IV & V recently. & a huge huge favor. if anyone out there has my age of the shrug mixes or my mountaineering mixes, i will make you yr own mix or make sure you get a copy of the two new tapes i have coming out this summer. thank you so much y'all for five years & a ton of great memories!

a good friend, al boudreau (who designed the cover for vol III & records under effed https://effedmusic.bandcamp.com/ ) pulled through with vol II of a young person's guide to mountaineering, would love to add all the other volumes of my mixes here for easy grabbing!

qualchan ~ dead solid perfect (a screwed tangerine dream mix).

hey, it's been a while. hurt my arm at work so i've been outta commission for a while now. anyway, to relieve some of the boredom, i made this screwed mix of tangerine dream's dead solid perfect, one of their lesser known gems. i found that when i was screwing it took on more of an october feel, more in line with umberto/carpenter/simonetti/as much as i hate to say it, a stranger things kinda vibe. anyway, i hope y'all enjoy & are having a great weekend!

ps will try to be a lil bit more active over here, but we'll see.

Stream of unconsciouness

I'm not a big Prefuse fan, but from time to time I'd play this when working, driving or too lazy to playlist, such awesome the mixtape is. One of these days, I was at work when, trying to find it in Grooveshark with no success, I noticed how overlooked it was (it was a limited, promo release as well). As the man himself put it, it's "a small sample of what I go home and listen to. More than a traditional mixtape, I preferred to let the introspective side in and share the sounds that I play when I’m cooking dinner, just thinking, or not sitting behind an MPC and various instruments for 12 hours!". Objectively, it's a careful selection of Latin American, Brazilian apocryphal and evangelical gems intertwined with some of his own samples, as I've discovered a couple of awesome things and could easily recognize others. About the ones I couldn't recognize, Prefuse himself stated that he wouldn't release any info on the tracks. Maybe for the best, tho.

the age of the shrug vol.1

hullo hullo hullo! a quick interruption to post something my brother & i have done together. a mixtape of exotica, funk, soul, jazz, kosmische synths, & heavy psych rock. if you were a fan of my young person's guide to mountaineering mix, then you'll dig this amigos!

much love to my comrade for steering this ship through some heady waters. yr dedication & selection never ceases to impress & inspire me. keep on fighting the good fight.

love,
